Art Life Death Wine and Microbes in San Diego

5.19.2005

I didn't see the Weather Project, sadly. (scientists? are you working on that teleportation device?) Olafur Eliasson has a new work in Pasadena. Since I will be there on the weekend - working on a driveway design(?!) - I'll go look.
Meant to be Lived In
Meant to be lived in remains on view through May 31, 2005, at the Jamie Residence, 1472 Inverness Drive, Pasadena, Ca. 91103. Viewing hours are Thursday to Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 12 noon to 5 pm. Admission is free.

My friend, Paul Henry, is having a show along with David Fobes and Wendy Maruyama at David Zapf, June 3rd to July 2nd, 2005. Paul is a furniture maker who is currently obsessed with the words like empire, oppression and imposition. This show is scheduled to coincide with the 9th Annual Conference of The Furniture Society being held at San Diego State University, June 8 - 11, 2005. You can see more of Paul's work at his site. David Zapf is at 2400 - 104 Kettner Blvd., San Diego, CA.

Another furniture show timed for the conference is at the La Jolla Athenaeum:

Pair five San Diego-based young, inspired furniture designers with five San Diego-based creative, “under the radar” artists – add five thought-provoking words around which each of the five teams will collaborate – and the result? Five original, collaborative works presented in the Athenaeum’s exhibition, 5: San Diego Emerging Artists Collaborate on Furniture and Art. This exhibition about “furniture” coincides with the 2005 Furniture Society Conference, hosted by San Diego State University Department of Furniture and Design, and Department Chair Wendy Maruyama. For more information on the conference and related programs, go to www.furnituresociety.org.

Not exactly art related and a little on the voyeuristic side but for those ornitholgists out there, check this out -
