ODE TO A RAINDROP

  Oh, for a raindrop
and more -
A torrent.
An excuse for rubber boots
and a big wool sweater.
I want to get on a crowded bus
everyone wearing a wet coat
carrying a dangerous umbrella.
I want to get off the bus
and not get my umbrella up
before a rooftop drools
onto my neck and down my back.
I want to ride fast to Canoe Cove
in an open boat, the rain
stinging my face and the cold
making my hands numb.
I want to order Oatmeal
beside a fogged up window
and drink bad coffee with
the old salts in from a warm night
on board their dream boat berths.

Oh, for a granite shoulder
and a soggy path through
salal and broken braken.
For the dank and dreary forest
past the dripping vine maples
and the mud puddles and the
arcade opening in the forest
at the shore.
