"Practice" - Oil on Mylar, 20"x20"

March/2005
I believe my work is about what is denied. It is about the lies of ommission, fears and introjects that keep us, from the big human experience. I'm interested in the intimate psycological relationship between an individual and a state - how the dark side of human nature is expressed and perceived and how our epistemological frames make sense of chaos.

I think about the "screen in the mind" Bill Viola talks about as a kind of void, the "Pleroma", a space where there is nothing because there is everything. There, opposites exist but their opposition, their war, doesn't. It's a place of possibilities where the organizing principles only become clear when the one holding the camera and focusing the lens is noticed.

I think I am trying to express "and", fueled by Eros, a permanent aspiration or desire to unite the world of the senses with the world of ideas. I want to make something sensually alluring that drags the unwilling to see nothing.
